"When our son was enrolled in the school, Walker embraced our whole family. They welcomed us into a wonderful and supportive community and gave our family the hope we had lost - with four little words: We're here to help."

How To Help

Make an on-line donation to Walker through Network For Good:

Our first programs began in 1961 with an act of philanthropy—a charitable trust bequeathed by George and Irene Walker. Their tradition of giving has grown stronger each year and continues today through the generosity of alumni, parents, volunteers, and friends. Walker has since grown into a network of many dedicated professionals: child care workers, clinicians, educators, and support staff. Our continued success depends on support we receive from our corporate partners, volunteers, community organizations, partnerships with state agencies, and the many private individuals who want to make a difference in the lives of struggling children, adolescents, and their families.

The institutional advancement staff at Walker is committed to providing our friends and supporters with many rewarding ways to get involved. You can make a gift—a contribution of any size will help to strengthen our capacity for teaching troubled students and supporting families who, too often, have nowhere else to turn. You can also volunteer—we welcome your donation of time, talents, and enthusiasm. Friends just like you have helped make Walker into a vibrant community with the power to transform lives. Here are some ways you can help:

Make a gift to the annual fund: A contribution of any size underwrites our academic and therapeutic programs. Click here to donate now!

Ask Your employer to match your gift: Double the leverage of your donation—just send us your company’s paperwork, we’ll do the rest.

Attend a special event: Our annual Lives in Bloom Gala is a spring evening of glamour and elegance, and our autumn Fore the Children charity golf tournament is held each year at a different exclusive Boston-area country club.

Host a party: Share the Walker story with your friends and neighbors over a glass of wine, or teach your child about philanthropy by donating birthday gifts to children in Walker residential programs—great ways to spread the word about Walker.

Remember Walker on a special occasion: You can make a donation in honor or remembrance of someone special, or in lieu of wedding or party favors—we will send notification of your generosity or provide special thank you notes for your guests.

Ask your company to join Walker Corporate Connections: Your company’s support for Walker can demonstrate philanthropic leadership and social responsibility to your customers and their communities.

Join the Friends of Walker: Join the Friends Walker to have fun making new friends while you help raise money and increase awareness of Walker in the community.

Consider naming Walker in your will: Your bequest to Walker will provide a powerful example to others and leave a charitable legacy for helping future generations of students and their families.

Take a tour of Walker: Visit our Needham and Watertown campuses and see for yourself how programs at the Walker School, Beacon High School, and Walker Partnerships are transforming lives.

Help with a special event: Lend a hand at special event, join our planning committees for golf and gala, help with seasonal festivals—have fun for a great cause!

Join our “Adopt-a-Home” program: Your church, synagogue, community organization, or company can have a special relationship with the children in one of Walker’s five residences. Help with homework, organize pizza parties, clean-up projects, holiday and birthday celebrations. Be a role model and a mentor for a group of very special children.

Share your interests and hobbies with our students: Are you a scientist? engineer? artist? musician? Do you have an interesting hobby? Be a judge at our science fair, visit a student art show, or spend an afternoon making scrapbooks or teaching guitar—your talents will find an enthusiastic audience at Walker.

Join a Clean-Up Crew: Looking for a hands-on volunteer experience? Spend a Saturday painting, raking leaves, or fixing bicycles—a great team-building exercise for company employees.

Donate an in-kind gift or service: Looking to donate a gently used item? Maybe you or your employer can provide a valuable product or service to Walker pro bono? Check out our wish list for ideas, or visit our gift registry at Target.com.
